What to expect
The museum consists of two separate buildings, 150 meters distance from each other. In Apostolou Pavlou street, war technology of ancient Greeks is illustrated via models, including Trireme, the famous Athenian war ship, catapults, siege towers, walls, armors, light weapons and even canons. Meanwhile in Herakleidon street, you can see a small collection of Automata from the Hellenistic period of Alexandria, Egypt. Automata are machines or tools that move or function with no obvious cause. A large scale functional model of Antikythera Mechanism, the first analogue computer, is also available made from plexiglass so one can see the mechanism itself.
Things to look out for
Do not miss out on the exhibits especially the wall prints. Read them carefully and watch the videos available in every exhibit. Feel free to ask the Museum's staff, or better yet, arrange a guided tour with them.
You can choose to visit any of the two buildings, but starting with one from Apostolou Pavlou street is highly recommended.
