What to expect

The museum is housed in two separate buildings, located just 150 meters apart, each offering a unique insight into different aspects of ancient technology.

On Apostolou Pavlou Street, explore the fascinating world of ancient Greek warfare, with detailed models illustrating war technology such as the Trireme, the famous Athenian warship, catapults, siege towers, armor, light weapons, and even early forms of cannons.

Meanwhile, on Herakleidon Street, discover a small but intriguing collection of Automata from the Hellenistic period of Alexandria, Egypt. These ancient machines, which function without an obvious cause, showcase early technological innovations. Among the highlights is a large-scale, functional model of the Antikythera Mechanism, the first known analogue computer, made from plexiglass to allow visitors to view the inner workings of this remarkable device.

Things to look out for

Helpful Tips

Do not miss out on the exhibits especially the wall prints. Read them carefully and watch the videos available in every exhibit. Feel free to ask the Museum's staff, or better yet, arrange a guided tour with them.

You can choose to visit any of the two buildings, but starting with the one on Apostolou Pavlou street is highly recommended.

The museum closes at 18:00 but please arrange your visit not later than 17:00, as you will need at least 60 minutes to go around the whole exhibition. Both buildings have two floors with stairways and no lifts or elevators. The walking distance between the two buildings is approximately two minutes and both buildings are a 10-minute walk from the Acropolis Museum and 8 minutes from the Ancient Agora.
